Introduction to Chemical Literature CHEM 281

Library resources for completing work in this course.

Objectives

1st session goals:

1. Conduct a variety of searches using library databases and internet resources

2. Identify a popular science article (secondary source) and trace the topic it discusses in scholarly, peer-reviewed sources

3. Use Refworks, a reference management system, to store research

4. Create a SciFinder (ChemAbstracts) account for next week's session

2nd session goals:

5. Use SciFinder (ChemAbstracts) database to conduct a reference search on your topic and/or an author

6. Obtain articles through full-text access or interlibrary loan (first registering)

7. Export references from SciFinder to your reference management account
