Going Deeper - Using library databases for topic selection

Library databases have many filters that can be used to narrow or broaden a search. In particular, they use 'controlled vocabulary' which means that they consistently assign tags or descriptors to documents such as articles or books. For example in the database PubMed/Medline, all articles about heart attacks with the subject 'Myocardial Infarction.'  

In addition, PubMed/Medline as well as CINAHL and other databases provide filters that allow you to limit your search results. For example, you can apply filters that limit results to: nursing-related research, English-language, last five years, and adult population.
